Arizona Charlie’s Boulder

Arizona Charlie’s Boulder is a hotel and casino located on Boulder Highway on the former site of Sunrise Suites. It has been owned by American Casino & Entertainment Properties (ACEP) since 2000. It is related to the Stratosphere Casino and Arizona Charlie’s Decatur, which was named after “Arizona” Charlie Meadows, a legendary sharpshooter in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show and a distant relative of the original casino’s proprietors, the Becker family. Currently, the Boulder location offers a 45,000-square-foot gaming facility with twelve table games, including seven blackjack-only tables.

All blackjack games at Arizona Charlie’s adhere to the same set of regulations. The dealer must hit on soft 17, doubling down after splitting is permitted, and capitulation is an option; however, re-splitting Aces is not permitted. The House edge varies depending on the number of decks used, with the best iteration being the $5$1,000 double-deck game with a 0.40 percent margin. A $3$500 game is also available 24 hours a day, but with six decks in the shoe, the house has a 0.57 percent advantage. The overall average margin at this casino is 0.48%, and the blackjack odds place it among the top ten “Off-Strip Hotels” in the Las Vegas area.

Arizona Charlie’s blackjack side wagers include both “Royal Match” and “Lucky Ladies.” The former accepts wagers on suited pairs and suited K-Q combinations with payouts ranging from 2.5X to 25X, while the latter pays out for two-card totals of 20, with incentives for certain combinations such as a pair of suited Queens. Those who maintain track of the tens have a substantial advantage on these wagers.

What’s Unique?

Arizona Charlie’s advertises itself as a “Las Vegas Locals Casino” in competition with other distant gambling establishments, namely Boulder Station and Sam’s Town, located along the “Boulder Strip” in the east of the Valley. This establishment strives to offer the most alluring promotions and newest games, such as “Free Bet” blackjack and single-deck Blackjack that pays 3:2 for a natural, in order to compete with its neighboring competitors. There are also ever-changing monthly promotions such as “lucky draws”

ace | PLAY for Avid Blackjack Players

Arizona The Charlie’s loyalty program has undergone several modifications over the years. It debuted in 1998 as the “Charlie Card” and merged with the “Stratosphere Player’s Club” shortly after the turn of the millennium to become “Ultimate Rewards,” which offered table game players no actual benefits. Recently, the program has been relaunched as “ace | PLAY,” with “new and enhanced” benefits for table games participants. Blackjack participants accumulate points based on their average wagers and table time. 600 points can be redeemed for $1 in cash, 500 points for $1 in free slot play, or 300 points for $1 in comp credits. The latter can be used for dining, beverages, lodging, performances, and more. Members of the Blue, Orange, Green, and Red tiers receive additional benefits, including point multipliers, comp dividends, restaurant discounts, and priority seating, based on their tier status.

The Inside Perspective

Although Arizona Charlie’s Boulder may be a casino predominantly for locals, and it is not located near a major intersection on Boulder Highway, it offers a number of unique attractions for out-of-town players. First, the suite accommodations are cheaper and more spacious than those available downtown and on the Strip. Second, it has an RV park “with over 200 spaces ranging in length from 30 to 70 feet to accommodate a variety of motor homes” that is open year-round. The presence of on-site dining, 24-hour bingo, a city bus stop directly in front of the casino, and live music by local bands near the pit area make this a destination of choice for those who are more interested in gambling than sightseeing.
